TRAVEL JOURNAL

DAY 1 - part one

Arrival in San Marcello in the early afternoon. Here you will be immediately immersed in the olive groves full of olives to harvest! You will be welcomed by Luca, Francesco and Paola, who passionately cultivate their olive trees and manage the farm’s oil mill from which they obtain excellent quality oils that express this territory because they are made from local and typical varieties of olives.
You will learn to distinguish the different cultivated varieties starting from the shape and colour of the olives and the bearing of the tree, you will try your hand at handling the harvesting cloths and start filling the crates with olives, discovering the different harvesting methods, from manual harvesting, to the facilitated harvesting with harvesters, up to the more modern trunk shaker, learning the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods and becoming olive growers for a day!
Once the harvest is over, it is time to rest a bit and discover how to taste extra virgin olive oil!

DAY 1 - part two

In the company of Paola you will experience a real mini extra virgin olive oil tasting course, refine your sense of smell and taste, and be amazed by the aromas and flavours released by the different oils produced on the farm!
This training will be important for what awaits you next!
With Luca you will go to the oil mill and discover how it works. You will see your olives go through all the stages of production from mechanised cleaning, to washing, to entering the crusher and then into the presses and finally into the decanter where the oil is finally extracted!
Equipped with a taster’s glass, you can now scoop up some freshly pressed oil and taste it just as you have learnt!

The day ends with the satisfaction of having produced your own extra virgin olive oil and you can return to the hotel where a super-deserved dinner awaits you!

DAY 2

After a good breakfast, get ready for a ride!
You will cycle along the gravel roads of the Verdicchio valleys of the castles of Jesi to arrive in the medieval streets of the village of Morro d’Alba, home of another DOC wine of excellence: Lacrima di Morro d’Alba!
Morro d’Alba will host you for a picnic lunch to be accompanied by a glass of Lacrima!

You will set off again along country roads among the vineyards of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba first and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi later.

The next stop is at the winery where you will enjoy a tasting snack of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, classified as the best white wine in the world!

All that remains to do is to reach your agriturismo for some relaxation and spend the night.

DAY 3

After a breakfast of champions you set off on your e-bikes for a morning of discovery of pieces of Marche history!

We will pass through some of the castles of Arcevia involved in the power struggles of that period, which also involved the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto, and then continue on to Arcevia, a town with a centuries-old history that from 1200 onwards was organised as a free commune, the memories of which still remain today in the town’s architecture!

The ride ends at Ca’ Bernardi, where those who wish can visit the archaeological park of the sulphur mines to explore a piece of the history of this area.

A private transfer service will then take you back to your cars for your return home or to continue your journey.
