The unforgettable experience of staying in a medieval castle
Duration
2 days and 1 night
Accommodation
Nestled in the tranquility of the Piceno woods, in the south of the Marche region, stands a castle of rare charm. History, nature, and hospitality meet in this millennial castle, whose existence is documented as far back as 1052 by a papal bull of Pope Leo IX, and which still preserves much of its original medieval structure, making it one of the most remarkable manor houses in the Marche.
After careful restoration following the 2016 earthquake, the castle has returned to life as a historic residence, offering guests a truly unique stay. The castle’s restaurant serves refined dishes of local cuisine, to be enjoyed in frescoed historic rooms, creating an experience that combines taste and history.
Upon arrival, the owners personally welcome guests and guide them on a tour of the castle: a special moment that allows you to immediately connect with its millennial history and the evocative atmosphere that defines it. The story is enriched with family anecdotes, passed down through generations, making the discovery even more vivid and engaging.
Staying at this castle means experiencing far more than just a night’s sleep: it is a journey within a journey, into history itself, in a place that for over a thousand years has continued to tell its soul through those who live in it and care for it with passion.
TRAVEL JOURNAL
DAY 1 – Ascoli Piceno, natural thermal baths and arrival at the castle
The journey can begin with the visit of Ascoli Piceno, one of the most elegant towns in the Marche region. Built in light travertine, it captivates with its architectural harmony. At the heart of the town lies the famous Piazza del Popolo, considered one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, surrounded by historic buildings and cafés where you can take a break and taste the traditional Anisetta, the local green anise-flavoured liqueur.
After the visit, you continue towards the mountains to experience something truly special and authentic: a soak in the thermal waters! In the local dialect, these natural sulphurous springs are known as “Lu Vurghe” and gush forth naturally, creating an open-air spa. The waters, rich in sulphur, have been appreciated since ancient times for their benefits: they promote the well-being of the respiratory system, the skin, and the muscles, offering a deep moment of relaxation immersed in unspoilt nature.
After this rejuvenating pause, you finally reach the castle, which will be your home for the evening and the night. Upon arrival, the owners welcome you and guide you on a tour of the castle, the first step in immersing yourself in the history and unique atmosphere of this millennial place. The day concludes with a refined dinner of local traditional dishes, before spending the night within the castle walls, surrounded by nature.
