Your guide

This small farm is located in Montefortino, a rural village in the Monti Sibillini National Park, where Giulia has embarked on her artisanal venture, reviving an ancient craft.

The Sibillini Mountains have long been associated with sheep farming (pecorino cheese being a typical product of this mountainous region). For centuries, the Sopravissana sheep breed has thrived here, once prized for its milk and wool. While wool production has waned in modern times, Giulia has sought to revive this traditional craft. All aspects of the process take place here, from sheep shearing to wool spinning, including the initial processing of the raw material. Giulia will warmly welcome you and guide you through the farm and its small wool museum, which showcases historical tools and equipment, providing insight into the transformation of fleece into wool, alongside the modern equipment used today.

Experience farm life firsthand!

You’ll also uncover the story behind the beginning of this entrepreneurial adventure, but we don’t want to spoil it for you: Giulia will tell you all about it! Between stories and work tools, we’ll embark on a true journey through time, from what wool processing was like over 200 years ago to modern artisanal techniques.

Make your own felt sponge!

In this workshop, you’ll learn the techniques of felt making (a special fabric made from processed wool), starting with the wet felting technique to create your own wool sponge wrapped around a bar of soap. Then, you’ll use the needle felting technique to decorate your work! You’ll take home your creation, and as you use it and the soap inside disappears, it will turn into a 100% unique and natural sponge, just like the handmade sponges of the past!

Dye your skein of wool with the natural colours provided by the forest!

Giulia gathers natural dyes from the forest or her small garden. You’ll be amazed by the array of colours nature has to offer!
You’ll prepare an infusion of plants, flowers, roots, and wood to achieve your desired colour.
Then, you’ll fill a glass jar with one skein of wool and cook the jars in a water bath in a large pot.
The end result will be a skein of wool dyed with your chosen natural colours, that will become a memento of the day!
