If you close your eyes and picture Abruzzo, you probably imagine rugged mountain peaks and ancient stone villages. Yet, at the foot of the Gran Sasso lies a quiet, crystal-clear secret. We invite you to glide gently along the waters of the Tirino River in a traditional Canadian canoe, discovering Italy's clearest river.No rush, no engine noise—just you, the water, and the wonder of nature.
TIME OF YEAR: Available all year round.
SUGGESTED OUTFIT: Comfortable, sporty clothing. In summer, shorts, a T-shirt and a swimsuit are ideal. During the cooler months, dress in layers with long trousers and a windproof jacket. Trekking sandals or water shoes are recommended (please avoid flip-flops and shoes with smooth soles). Don't forget your sunglasses, a hat, eco-friendly sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a change of dry clothes to leave in the car (you won't necessarily get wet, but a few splashes from the paddle are all part of the fun!).

Local guides will accompany you throughout the experience—true guardians of the Tirino Valley who know and live this river every day. With the warmth and enthusiasm of people who genuinely love their land, they will do far more than simply steer the canoe along the calm, crystal-clear waters. They will share stories, local legends and fascinating insights into this unique ecosystem, allowing you to discover the river through the eyes of those who have called it home for years.
Before starting this adventure, we will introduce you to the basics of canoe navigation and paddle techniques, helping you get comfortable and prepared. It will also be a moment to clear your mind and gently tune into the peaceful rhythm of the river.
We are ready to step aboard the Canadian canoes. Each boat is guided by an experienced local guide who will take care of steering and navigation.
All you will need to do is gently paddle, follow the rhythm of the river, and let yourself be carried away.
We will then navigate upstream—on soft, calm waters—towards the springs of Capodacqua, gliding between poplars and willows, surrounded by the sounds of nature.
During the journey, we will make stops to observe the aquatic flora (such as wild celery, which you may even taste!) and the wildlife along the riverbanks. Many waterbirds nest here and, if you are lucky, you might spot a coot or catch a glimpse of a trout darting through the water.
A walk with your feet immersed in the pure, fresh waters of the river will leave you feeling completely refreshed and renewed!
After visiting the most enchanting spots, we will let the gentle current carry us back to the base. It will be a moment of pure relaxation, where your only task is to breathe in the fresh air of the valley, surrounded by complete silence.
This is a truly unique experience, where you will paddle along a river so clear that you can see the limestone riverbed and the submerged aquatic plants swaying like in a natural aquarium. In the background lies the Tirino Valley, with the mystery of the Warrior of Capestrano and the stories of the ancient Italic peoples who once considered this body of water sacred.

Each canoe accommodates 2 adults plus the guide.
Children up to 5 years of age can join their parents’ canoe at no extra cost.

It is possible to enrich your day in the Tirino Valley with additional experiences such as a guided e-bike tour, a visit to the Stiffe Caves, or a tasting lunch after your canoeing experience.

Dog sitting service (the river is a protected and delicate area, therefore our four-legged friends are not allowed on board. However, a dedicated service is available upon request at €10.00 per hour).
Each canoe accommodates a maximum of 2 adults. It is possible to bring one child on board (aged 2 to 5 years, max 20 kg and 1 metre in height), who will sit comfortably in the middle between the two adults.
For safety and stability reasons, the maximum permitted weight per single passenger is 100 kg.
This activity does not require a minimum number of participants.
