Discovering saffron from harvest to table

The visit ends with a snack, but Don't forget to buy a jar of saffron at a special price as the memento of a pleasant and rich morning in the company of Andrea and his family and to put the recipes you heard about into practice!

Andrea: photographer, video maker, passionate cook, farmer and breeder!

Since 2015 he has started his own project to transform his country house into a real farm.

Many projects have been completed, many more are in the pipeline! Among the rolling green hills of Recanati and the blue mountains in the distance, the purple of the saffron flowers comes to life in this small farm during the autumn season, when the colors of the countryside turn yellow and orange.


Meeting at Andrea’s house early in the morning. After a greeting and a welcome coffee, we will all move to the flowery saffron field to dedicate ourselves to the discovery of the saffron plant and picking flowers! Everyone will be assigned a row and with Andrea’s explanations and under his watchful eye, the harvest will begin!

The husking

Once the baskets are filled, you will move into the house to experience the husking activity that allows the extraction of the red saffron stigmas from the flowers. A manual work that becomes an opportunity to rediscover a direct contact with nature and the territory, a moment of meeting and sharing.
Each one will be assigned a quantity of flowers and in the company of Andrea and his mother Mirella we will collect the stigmas.
Once all the red gold has been extracted from the flowers, it will be time to dry it!

Then you will cheer up... and eat!

While the stigmas are drying in a tray, after a lot of work, it will be time to enjoy a snack based on saffron jam produced on the farm.
While the taste buds will be enjoying the moment, mum Mirella will talk to you about the culinary uses of saffron, offering you tips and recipes from a true expert!
While waiting, there will also be time to get to know the latest arrivals in the farm with Andrea: the microgreens and two nice goats!
