day 3 - OFFAGNA OR OSIMO
The time has come to depart after your stay on the Conero, but there’s still time for a final exploration of the surroundings!
Offagna and its Medieval Fortress
One of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages, where the unmissable highlight is undoubtedly the 15th-century fortress, an impressive stronghold of the Ancona Maritime Republic’s defense system, offering insight into the strategic role this village has played over the centuries.
If you wish, you can also explore the other two unique local museums: the Liberation Museum and the Natural Sciences Museum, dedicated to the scholar Luigi Paolucci, with its fascinating collection of artifacts and memorabilia.
To complete the experience, we suggest a stop at an ancient cellar in the village center, where you can enjoy a glass of Rosso Conero—the signature wine of these hills—under the shade of the garden, or a lunch break in one of the village’s charming local restaurants.
OSIMO AND ITS UNDERGROUND TOWN
Another town too interesting to be left out of the itinerary is Osimo.
With Roman origins, the village is famous for its elegant medieval historic center, its monumental squares, and above all, for the underground caves carved into the tuff.
Beneath the town lies an entire underground city, with an almost esoteric charm, full of symbols, secrets, and mysterious stories waiting to be discovered during your visit.
A stroll through the narrow streets, historic buildings, and panoramic viewpoints over the surrounding hills completes the exploration of the town.
We suggest taking a break in the gardens of Piazza Nuova, overlooking the terrace of Via Giulia, perhaps accompanied by a packed lunch, before continuing your journey home.
